"My research is focused on understanding how RNA structure can inform mechanisms of non-canonical translation initiation. Specifically, I am interested in HCV-like internal ribosome entry sites (IRESs) and how their structural heterogeneity informs their mechanisms of action and host cell specificity. Going forward, I will be investigating how the domain III region of these IRESs help regulate IRES activity and specificity."
Kate enjoys climbing, reading (non-fiction and Sci-fi classics), and farmers markets. She also enjoys hanging out with her cat, Squish, and watching the Real Housewives, Vanderpump Rules, and Ru Paul's Drag Race. Coming from Minnesota, she's naturally a fan of Tater tot Hotdish.
Dr. Squish (DDS, PhD, MD, JD, LSW, LLC) enjoys reading papers. The song "Blue (da ba dee)" was, in fact, written by Squish.
